Sly Drinks

Arizona State University alum Dr. Tom Chez and his wife, Dr. Amy Chez, are the co-founders of Sly Drinks, a local beverage company that offers noncarbonated drinks with natural energizers that give the perfect kick to start the day.

Sly is now the official drink of the Sun Angel Collective, which is ASU's Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) program, where 15-20% of sales go back to the student-athletes to help with their living expenses so they can concentrate on their studies and on their athletic performance.

“50 other ASU alumni support the Sly brand,” Dr. Tom Chez said. “So, it's a group effort”

The concept of Sly was created because Amy Chez hated water — so the husband and wife duo put their brains together to create a new drink.

“With our medical backgrounds, we got together with a formulator and got people from the grassroots to taste the flavors and put it all together, all in about two and a half years.” Dr. Tom Chez said. “We've been practicing optometrists in the Valley for 20 years, and she wanted to drink something other than water, but she didn't really like the junk that was out there.”

“I didn't like her always drinking Diet Coke,” Chez continued. “So, we put our medical heads together and created crafted ingredients that can calm you down, help you sleep and give you a kick without caffeine. There are other products out there that have way too much caffeine. And, I think people realize that they need a kick but may not need 500 milligrams of caffeine.”

They have three main flavors: tropical and lime, a Chill drink that acts as a relaxing mocktail, and Dream, which is infused with melatonin for a better night's sleep.

Sly may not be in grocery stores yet, but they are in a number of liquor and convenience stores, along with local mom-and-pop shops. With the help of ASU, they are looking to branch out and get into Circle K and the P.O.D. markets on campus.

“The more involvement that we get from students on campus and the more ambassadors we're looking for, the more that we can push to get on campus, even in Sun Devil Stadium,” Chez finishes out, hoping that people will “Come help support us. You can contact me at any time at DrinkOnTheSly.com.”
